How do Kion Aminos compare to protein?Updated 3 years ago
We are often asked, how much protein is in this?
Well, the answer is quite a bit more complex than you might think. Contrary to popular belief.. free form amino acids are not proteins, they are simply the building blocks of protein, think of amino acids being the brick, and protein being the wall all of those bricks have built.
So when comparing the Kion Aminos to protein, we try to focus solely on muscle protein synthesis (MPS), or the rate at which it can be increased.
EAA's in the right ratios and serving sizes have shown to increase MPS at rates higher than even that of whey protein.. the most effective "in-tact" protein.
All well and good, but I want to track my protein intake..
Partly due to wildly varying quality dietary proteins, not to mention the fact that isolated amino acids are not macro nutrients, it's difficult to give an exact answer. However, and again, when solely looking at % increase in MPS it can be safely essential amino acids stimulate this increase at a rate 2x (if not higher) than that of dietary proteins.
So if you are tracking your macros, and must include Kion Aminos in your tracking a safe bet is to consider each gram of Kion Aminos as equivalent to 2g of dietary proteins. I.E. a recommended serving of 5g Kion Aminos can be logged as 10g of protein.
