Creatine and ChildrenUpdated 8 months ago
Can my child take Creatine?
Whenever we are considering a supplement protocol for any individual under 18, we must stress that any concerns first be discussed with a medical professional, that said supplementation be given under supervision and that label dosages not be exceeded.
Creatine is by a wide margin the most heavily studied sport supplement in existence. A multitude of efficacy and safety studies have been performed across an incredibly wide age cohort, ranging from 6y years old to the elderly, and is generally considered safe across all populations.
If proper precautions and supervision are provided, creatine monohydrate supplementation in children and adolescent athletes is acceptable and may provide a nutritional alternative with a favorable safety profile to potentially dangerous anabolic androgenic drugs. However, when considering younger populations creatine supplementation is likely only beneficial to younger athletes who are involved in serious/competitive supervised training, and we highly recommend that you are first ensuring they are consuming a well-balanced and performance-enhancing diet.
